Congratulations to Joshua Leung – National Chemistry Olympiad Semi-Finalist

Congratulations to Matthew Rodriguez for signing his letter of intent to New Mexico St. University.  We are so proud of you!!!

Sal Ortiz enters his first season with Wilson as their varsity head football coach. Coach Ortiz previously spent 2016 as Workman High School’s co-head coach for their varsity football team. He has also spent previous years as the defensive coordinator and strength coach at his high school alma mater Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights, Calif. where the program saw a cumulative record of 22-12 during his tenure.  During that time, Ortiz mentored three defensive lineman to All-CIF honors as well as an All-State nomination.  He was an integral member of Los Altos' 1999 and 2000 CIF Division VII Championships under coach Greg Gano.  Ortiz earned Los Angeles Times SGV All-Valley Linebacker as well as Southern Section California Interscholastic Federation Division VII Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Year for Los Altos High School in 2001.

Ortiz continued his education at Chaffey Community College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. under coach Carl Beach they had a 19-3 record in the two years he participated.  After transferring to Azusa Pacific University, playing one season under coach Victor Santa Cruz, Ortiz earned his Bachelors of Arts in Physical Education and his California Teaching Credential.

Congratulations to Jonathan Gonzales for his acceptance to the University of La Verne to play football.  He will sign his letter of intent on Friday at lunch.

Your Wilson Track and Field team represented the Wildcat Family very well at the Valle Vista League finals. The day started off with our Boys Varsity 4 x 100m relay (Davion Lewis, Elijah Huger, Jonathan Gonzales, Tyre Lane)  team coming from behind to win in dramatic fashion snatching the victory away from the Rowland speedsters. After a poor exchange between our #1 and #2 runners the team fell behind, but the following handoffs were flawless and Tyre Lane was not about to denied as he roared from behind with a blistering anchor leg to secure the victory!

Later in the day Jonathan Gonzales anchored our 4 x 400m relay (Milan Johnson, Nathan Tu, Tyre Lane, Jonathan Gonzales) to a 2nd place finish qualifying for CIF prelims this Saturday at Estancia High School. Jonathan received the baton 5 meters back and ran an incredible relay leg, catching the Rowland runner off the last turn and was just out leaned at the finish line.

Over the weekend our team (Alejandro Arteaga, Jessica Lam & Belinda Wang) competed in the State final for the Chevron design Challenge and took first place. Congratulations!!!
