Engineering Pathway Classes

Principles of Engineering (PoE) - 1st Year

The course exposes students to some of the major concepts that they will encounter in a post secondary engineering course of study. Students have an opportunity to investigate engineering and high tech careers. POE gives students the opportunity to develop skills and understanding of course concepts through activity-, project-, and problem-based (APPB) learning.

Digital Electronics (DE) - 2nd Year

Digital Electronics (DE) is the study of electronic circuits that are used to process and control digital signals as opposed to analog signals that are varying. Digital electronics is the foundation of all modern electronic devices such as cellular phones, MP3 players, laptop computers, digital cameras, high definition televisions, etc. The major focus of the DE course is to expose students to the design process of combinational and sequential logic design, teamwork, communication methods, engineering standards, and technical documentation.

Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)/ IB Design Technology (SL) - 3rd Year

This course introduces students to the design process and the tools used in product development. Students will experience first‐hand the activities in which engineers engage throughout the design cycle. Development of design briefs, sketching, 3D solid modeling, and prototyping through computer‐aided drafting are part of the course. Students will have the opportunity to learn ways in which design techniques apply to many fields, such as healthcare, business, art and animation, manufacturing, engineering, etc.

Engineering Design and Development (EDD) IB Design Technology (HL) - 4th Year

The knowledge and skills students acquire throughout PLTW Engineering come together in Engineering Design and Development as they identify an issue and then research, design, and test a solution, ultimately presenting their solution to a panel of engineers. Students apply the professional skills they have developed to document a design process to standards, completing Engineering Design and Development ready to take on any post-secondary program or career.
