Visual Commercial Art 1
Semesters: 2 Credits: 10 Grades: 9-12
Credit: Area F, Visual Art Elective
Prerequisites: None
Visual Commercial Art 1 is a one year intro class which develops knowledge, skills, and experiences with design principles through the Adobe Creative Suite, digital technology, and photographic technique. Students will plan, create, manipulate, output, and analyze graphic and photographic images. Through their projects students will develop problem solving skills, critical thinking and self-reflection while learning to express themselves and communicate ideas. Students will learn the history and current practices of commercial art and how that applies to current careers.
Visual Commercial Art 2
Semesters: 2 Credits: 10 Grades: 10-12

Prerequisites: Visual Commercial Art 1
Visual Commercial Art 2 is a concentrator course that builds on the topics in the level 1 class, emphasizing photography and the manipulation of elements and media, extending those experiences through the ever-changing trends in a global communications field. This course enhances students’ creative vision and style through aesthetics in design, while developing production skills in practical applications. Students will study the development of the arts and its impact as a communications tool personally and culturally, becoming familiar with current practices and applications with regards to future careers. Each student is encouraged to enter their work in art shows while generating content for a portfolio of work.
Visual Commercial Art 3
Semesters: 2 Credits: 10 Grades: 11-12
Credit: Area F, Visual Art Elective
Prerequisites: Visual Commercial Art 1 & 2
Visual Commercial Art 3 is a capstone level course that prepares students for post-secondary educational opportunities, as well as entry level workforce skills. Emphasis is on applying graphic and photographic concepts in a professional, project-based environment. Students advance their mastery of elements of art, principles of design, rules of composition and production techniques. Critiques and presentations will provide opportunities for students to grow as visual communicators. This course focuses on the application of knowledge creating artistic products, participating in arts shows and building a professional portfolio of work.
AP Studio Art: 2D Design: Photography
Semesters: 2 Credits: 10 Grades: 11-12
Credit: Area F, Visual Art Elective
Prerequisites: Visual Commercial Art 1
Is a capstone class for the pathway and follows the AP 2D Design course outline set forth by the College Board. Advanced art students work on a breadth of skills in both materials and concepts. An area of concentration, which focuses on either a particular subject matter or medium is also required. A quality section worthy of inspection by colleges, scholarship committees, and potential employers is produced.
Yearbook
Semesters: 2 Credits: 10 Grades: 9-12
Credit: Area G, A-G College Prep Elective
The yearbook staff is responsible for creating a cumulative publication documenting the academic, athletic, extracurricular activities and events of the Glen A. Wilson High School campus throughout the year. Student will cover all of the organizations and events of the year through photography and writing. Students develop responsibility and discipline by meeting class and plant deadlines. Students will develop soft skills while interacting and collaborating with staff members, editors, and teachers. Students will practice effective communication with members of the school community outside of the classroom. Students will learn the digital publishing tools and procedures that are part of producing a professional publication (Word Processing, Desktop Publishing (InDesign), Image Editing (Photoshop).
