Welcome to Mock Trial
Our Mock Trial Team had much success during the past few seasons. We were able to qualify for competition in the 3rd Round of the Constitutional Rights Foundation Mock Trial Competition in L.A. County twice. This means that out of about 100 or so competing schools, Wilson placed at about 17th. Our teams had not advanced to this level since taking the L.A County Mock Trial Championship in 2006.
In addition, one of our four year veterans, Ashley Godoy, was nominated as Pre-Trial Prosecution Attorney of the Year---no small accomplishment. During the 2015-16 Season, our courtroom journalist, Min Wong, not only won 1st Place at L.A. County competition, but also won 1st Place at State Finals for her excellent journalistic talents.
Information meetings about Mock Trial begin at the very beginning of each school year, with team tryouts that quickly follow.
The organization that sponsors the Mock Trial program is Constitutional Rights Foundation. Additional information about the program can be found on CRF's wesite: www.crf-usa.org
Social Science Teacher, Mr. Barone, has been the team's advisor for over 16 years, and facilitates team practices from rooms D-4 and D-5. Experienced attorneys help coach the team on various aspects of courtroom procedures and arguments.
Information Meeting,Tryouts, and Program Benefits!
For the each Mock Trial season, we will provide information meetings for all interested students. These meetings will typically be advertised in early August and conducted during lunch in D-4. Students may attend one or both meetings, in which they will receive information about Mock Trial, along with instructions for team tryouts. Tryouts are usually conducted a few days AFTER the information meetings. Students must tryout in pairs, one playing the role of an attorney, one playing the role of an expert witness. The length of our season depends on the success of the team. We typically practice TWO nights a week, except Fridays, from 5pm to 8pm, but such scheduling is subject to change depending on decision making that each team makes for itself each year. We also invite and encourage donations to help support team costs, including transportation and registration. All donations can be made through Wilson's ASB office.
