Karen Ho
Dr. Karen Ho has proudly joined the team as Assistant Principal at Glen A. Wilson High School since November 2022. This year, she will oversee the guidance department, Special Education, attendance, science, S-MAP testing, English Learner program/testing and the English Learner Advisory Committee.
Educational Experience
Dr. Ho received a B.S. in biological sciences and a minor in health promotions from California State University, Fullerton. After receiving the degree, she began substitute teaching followed by full-time teaching in Montebello Unified School District. She continued her education, earning her multiple subjects teaching credential from Whittier College and earned a Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Teaching and Learning from Azusa Pacific University (2006, 2016, respectively). In 2012, Dr. Ho left the classroom to pursue opportunities to support the school as a teacher on special assignment focusing on the Title I and English Learner programs. From there, she went to the Federal and State programs department at the district level. Eventually, Dr. Ho worked in both the district and school level for the remaining years before joining the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District (HLPUSD) family.
In her time supporting students and families, Dr. Ho earned the Golden Oak Service Award as a three-time Honorary Service Award recipient during her educational career. This distinguished honor recognized her significant contributions to the welfare of children and youth.
Background and Interests
Before delving into public education, Dr. Ho worked in the hospital setting in the pharmacy and emergency services departments. As she discovered over time, her passion in service had shifted from health to education. The experience and learning have enabled her to become a better mom of two girls and a wife to an extremely supportive husband. Her loving husband, parents, and mother-in-law provide the support for Dr. Ho to refine her role and learning at the high school level. They make it possible to allow her the time to bake (mostly bread lately), knit/crochet, enjoy movie time, travel and spend precious time with the family as high school life is extremely busy. Cheers and thank you to the family of support!
